Stefek’s presents Elaborate Collections: An Auction of Contrast. This eclectic auction features items from a variety of estates, with a feature on the Estate of Mary Jane Devlin, lifelong resident of Toledo’s Old West End and grandniece of Michael J. Owens, glass manufacturer and inventor. Items range from a series of erotic bronzes to a collection of religious artifacts and more.

Furniture of note in this auction includes a carved walnut Gothic Revival bench, a set of a Masonic chair and bench by the Henderson-Ames Co., a William and Mary tavern table, and a fine example of a 19th century Sheraton sample chest. Mid-century selections include a set of three red leather chairs in the “Barcelona” style after Mies van der Rohe and Lilly Reich, several pieces of Lane Acclaim furniture, an Isamu Noguchi for Knoll 86T rocking stool, a Tommi Parzinger Model 161 dining table, and more.

Two large oil on canvas paintings by American artist William Glen Crooks will be on offer, in addition to works by Jim Perkins, Henri Maik, William Preston Phelps, Alois Arnegger, Heinz Rabbow, and more. A unique silkscreen print by Romare Bearden titled “The Baptism” will be available for bidding. An attractive glass piece by Dale Chihuly from his “Cinnamon Macchia” editions highlights our art glass section. Paintings by Toledo native Mary Jane Devlin round out the collection of fine art.

Special pieces from the collection of Mary Jane Devlin include a wide variety of religious artifacts including reliquaries, statuary, rosaries, brass cathedral candlesticks, and décor.

From her collection comes a stunning example of the work of Russian imperial silversmith Pavel Ovchinnikov – “The Lord Almighty” silver, niello, and enamel icon depicting Christ from 1881. The icon displays intricate silver and cloisonne enamelwork surrounding a painted image of Jesus Christ delivering a blessing.
