Master jeweler Louis-François Cartier founded the firm in Paris in 1847 and established a reputation for creating pieces that were innovative, distinctive and of top quality in design, materials, and execution. In 1899 he handed control to his three sons, who continued to develop the firm’s reputation as the “Jeweler of Kings.”

Among the more notable Cartier clientele have been royalty, stars, and tycoons, including King Farouk of Egypt, The Duchess of Windsor, Elizabeth Taylor, Grace Kelly, and Clark Gable. The Cartier family retained ownership of the firm until 1964. It is now part of the Richemont Group.

An Amazing Diamond Necklace, Set in Platinum

An exquisite, graduated diamond lady’s necklace from the House of Cartier features 99 round, brilliant cut diamonds, each prong set in the platinum necklace.

The term “graduated” refers to a necklace with diamonds of various sizes. In this piece, the diamonds range in size from 2.8 millimeters to 5.2 millimeters. Each stone is prong-set. The largest diamond centers the necklace, with the two next largest stones on either side.

The lady’s Cartier “Surinam” twisted sixteen-strand pearl necklace is made up with an 18k yellow gold diamond and onyx clasp.

The clasp is set with 131 round brilliant cut diamonds and 21 cabochon cut black onyx, all pave set. The round, brilliant cut diamonds range from 2.3 millimeters to 2.8 millimeters, approximately, in size. Their total weight is estimated at 5.80 carats.

 The Cartier “Surinam” pearl and 18k lady’s twisted sixteen-strand pearl bracelet has an 18k yellow gold diamond and onyx clasp.

The clasp is set with 164 round brilliant cut diamonds and 38 cabochon cut black onyx, all pave set. The piece’s 164 diamonds measure from 2.3 millimeters to 2.8 millimeters, approximately, in size. Their total weight is estimated at 5.58 carats est.
